Organisers of the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth have confirmed two top-10 players for the inaugural staging of the innovative new event at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in February.
Swedish sensation Alex Noren will join young American star Patrick Reed as the marquee players in a huge boost for the fledgling event, which features match play on the final day.
The tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and PGA of Australasia, has done what the previous event, the Perth International, couldn’t in luring a top-10 player to WA.
World No.8 Reed, a five-times winner on the PGA Tour and renowned match play exponent for the US in the Ryder Cup, said he was keen to be a part of it from the moment he heard about the new format.
“To be able to travel to Australia and compete in a unique tournament is something I am very excited about,” he said.
“I would love to be the inaugural champion of the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth and will be playing my best golf to ensure I not only make the six-hole match play rounds on Sunday but that I am lifting the trophy that afternoon.”
World No.9 Noren is in hot form and has stormed into the top 10 courtesy of four victories on the European Tour this year which also saw him finish third on the 2016 Race to Dubai.
“This will be my first time to WA and I am excited to play Lake Karrinyup Country Club and see the sights,” Noren said. “I have heard great things from my fellow European Tour players.
“Everyone on the European Tour has been talking about the event, the format is very interesting and I look forward to playing in the inaugural tournament.”
WA players Brett Rumford and Jason Scrivener were both on hand for today’s announcement and expressed excitement about golf’s answer to Twenty20 cricket being launched in their home town.
