India’s trajectory points to it becoming a top three global economy, playing a dominate role in the Indian Ocean region and central to Australia’s strategic and economic interests.
With a vision to train 400 million people by 2022, Prime Minister Modi launched Skill India in 2014. In the same year a new Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, led by the Hon Sri Rajiv Rudy was established to better coordinate skills policy and program delivery across India.
Although Education is already Australia’s largest services export sector and India is Australia’s second largest source country for international students there is much room for increased economic and trade cooperation. For example, Australia’s trade relationship with India stands at 10 percent in comparison with China.
The mission has a goal of enhancing the Australia-India bilateral education and skills relationship, and presents a unique occasion for Australian education and skills delegates to network with Indian delegates from a wide range of business and industry sectors and organisations.
As an Australian delegate you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of engaging programs including:
a Skills in the Mining Sector Workshop hosted by the Australia India Business Council (AIBC), Australia India Institute (AII) and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
networking with colleagues at the Australia India Knowledge Partnership Gala Dinner hosted by the Department of Education and Training
join the 4th Australia-India Skills Conference, Skilling a Global Economy hosted by the Australian and Indian Governments and the Confederation of Indian Industry with a special address by the Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, Minister for Education and Training
attend the closing Conference Reception hosted by the Australia India Institute.
These events will provide mission delegates with an exciting opportunity to establish stronger professional and organisational links with their Indian counterparts while gaining a deeper understanding of the Indian training market and the challenges it faces in educating and skilling its large population. There will be opportunities to network with key Indian education and industry representatives and stakeholders and explore potential for collaboration.
