The Canning Show is conducted each year by the Canning Agricultural, Horticultural & Recreational Society. This year the ‘Make Smoking History Canning Show’ is proudly sponsored by Healthway promoting the Make Smoking History message. Further information on the message can be found by clicking HERE.
This year’s Show will play host to the International Year of Light & Light Technology. The Show will celebrate the challenge by inspiring crafters, photographers and artists to think about light and shade, and the moods light can create with large exhibition of floriculture and horticulture planned for showcase, as we celebrate the life that photosynthesis gives us. Entertainment galore is set to hit the showgrounds as after all, entertainment in its many forms is what ‘lights up our world’.
The Show Days consist of a full scheduled sixteen hour stage show, roaming entertainment and a large sideshow with games, rides, showbags and stalls of all kinds. Friday night will see the Canning sky light up with Westfield Carousel’s Fireworks Show commencing at 9:00pm. Saturday the Show will roll on with exhibits from the local community, and inspiring displays of light and light technology alike. The Show will conclude with a concert from 6:00pm hosted by MC impersonator Andrew Simpson as Dame Edna, featuring the Fab Four with their Beatles Tribute, and headlining with theAbsolute Kylie production closing the Show on a highly visual
production accompanied by absolutely stunning replicated costumes, live singing, a troupe of talented and dedicated Kylie-esque dancers, high energy, engaging performances which include both humour and audience participation with all the well known chart topping Kylie hits – audiences will believe they’re are at one of Kylie’s own live renowned concerts, beside the globes which light up Sideshow Alley!
The grounds are set to fill with a few surprises, including a lazer light exhibition, a ‘light inspired show’ by the Twisted Vaudeville Circus, the final heat of the Society’s Showtime Talent Quest, and the agricultural production Sydney or the Bush, which showcases Australia’s heritage and features a special Anzac 10th Light Horse tribute. In a light hearted Aussie larrikin style the hosts Sydney & Kim take the audience for a trip back in time to a time when all Australians rode on the sheep’s back, began to shape this nation – our Golden Fleece era. The production includes all the favourites: actual sheep shearing, amazing horsemanship & tricks, whip cracking, many traditions and a comical rendition of Waltzing Matilda. Familiar poetry from Banjo & Henry captures the essence of colonial Australia. The famous kelpie dogs demonstrate all the aspects of working sheepdogs and enthral the audience with their human like talents.
Not far from Sideshow Alley the Society are also excited to announce the presence of Perth Heat, presenting an interactive pitching field and signing autographs, while roving around the grounds in celebration of the International Year of Light the Society have also invited WASAMBA Carnival Drummers, who will quite literally light up the grounds. This year, there is too much going on to miss. The countdown is on – bring fourth the Show!
The organisation of this annual event remains one of the main tasks of the Committee of Management. Held in the first week of November, the Show attracts around 11,000 people to take part in a full programme of entertainment and display of cultural exhibits by local residents. This year the Society celebrates 120 Shows, and encourage anyone with awards, photos or any other Show memorabilia from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s to contact us in helping create a moment of reminiscing for all Show goers!
